The Windsor Club, a not-for-profit organisation operating a squash and sporting activity member’s club in Windsor asked us to design a brand new building to increase their membership base and offer new facilities for their existing members.
The tight site, fraught with complications is within the Green Belt, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a flood risk section of the River Thames. It is bordered by a gas main, existing rowing club and dense woodland.
Nestled against a spinney and falling towards the river our design stacks functions around a linear circulation route that teases at the activities within before opening out onto expansive terraces that provide shelter and elevated views of the river.
A curving timber roof structure, draped over it all, becomes a continuous feature enclosing dramatic high spaces over the pool and squash courts and softening the building’s silhouette.
