This extension to a private house in Guernsey doubles the kitchen and adds a new entrance and facade.
Internally narrow, cellular rooms are opened up creating a series of interconnected light, open and airy spaces whilst an existing conservatory is replaced with structural glazing punching through an oak colonnade with a new pergolla over.
The new structure performs three functions:
- To correct a problem of overheating by reducing solar gain
- To encourage use of the garden
- To consolidate an irregularly proportioned facade
